With just a few days left of 2017, I started reflecting on all the highs and lows of the year and it turns out that 2017 has been an incredible year. I have had the craziest and most exciting year of my life with many changes and life lessons. I decided to write this blog post as a follow up to my resolutions I made earlier this year, reflecting on whether I achieved my goals and how I pushed myself this year.
On Saying yes to new adventures and trying new things
I made a new years resolution to say yes to everything (within reason of course). This goal was inspired by the movie Yes Man, I wanted to open myself up to new opportunities and step out of my comfort zone. This challenge was incredibly difficult but led to many hilarious and unexpected situations.
On Finding a new Hobby
As part of my attempt to try new things, I decided to take up new hobbies and I took up coding. It felt like the right skill to learn for my future career aspirations and the digital world we live in. It was incredibly difficult at first but as you practice and work on projects, it gets easier and is actually a lot of fun.
On Accepting Disappointments
As many blessings as 2017 has brought, I have also faced many disappointments and setbacks. Things don’t always go as you expect them to go and people will often disappoint you but don’t dwell on them too long, every disappointment is an opportunity waiting to happen.
On Speaking things into Existence
One of the biggest lessons I have learned this year is the power of optimism and speaking things into existence. I always referred to myself as a realist but this year I have focused on being optimistic and staying positive about every situation. Your mind is incredibly powerful and when you adjust the way you think, your life will change.
On Switching Career Paths
I made an incredibly difficult discussion to change career paths after feeling uninspired and stuck in the position I was in. Even though I am still at the beginning of my career, it was a difficult decision and a surprisingly difficult process.
Overall, 2017 was amazing and I look forward to what 2018 has to offer. Finally, I would like to wish you all a wonderful Christmas and an amazing New Year!
