NO. 21 Knotted satin sandals Review

Shopping Style May 19, 2017 0 Comments

The No. 21 brand is one that I have been eyeing up for a very long time. The designer Alessandro Dell’Acqua combines elements of tailoring with a feminine, Italian sensibility. The No.21 brand is well known for its unique details such as the signature bow tie,  embellishments and cool prints. The silhouettes are quite reserved and sophisticated and that is what drew me to the brand. The knotted satin sandals have become a favourite for me this season and so I wanted to do a review on my new favourite shoes.

Fashion Internships: How to Get Them & Turn It Into a Full Time Job

Fashion Lifestyle Stories Style May 11, 2017 0 Comments

Internships are a funny one, most internships are unpaid and interns are usually overworked. However,  they are also a great opportunity for you to ‘learn’ and also try out different roles for short periods of time. I have heard so many horror stories about internships and how people have been taken advantage of for no pay or very little pay. There are so many issues with fashion internships, but, taking on a few internships early in your career is a great way to gain experience as well as figure out what your interests are.

PROS: Great on your CV | Confidence boost and great for making contacts | Possible paid role at the end if you’re good | Great Learning experience | Little commitment – can always leave if unhappy.

CONS: Full-time job commitments & hours without the pay | Waste of time if the role is not what you expected.  read more

For The Love of Ankara

Fashion Outfits Style April 10, 2017 6 Comments

I have a love-hate relationship with Ankara (African print,). I love how colourful and vibrant Ankara fabric is but I have a phobia of delving too far out of my comfort zone when it comes to colour so Ankara is usually reserved for weddings and events in Nigeria. I rediscovered my love for Ankara about a month ago when I decided to rearrange my wardrobe. I randomly pulled out this Ankara dress which had been custom made for me a few years ago but had never seen the light of day. I have since dusted off the rest of my Ankara pieces and to be honest as spring is here, it is the perfect time to add come colour to my wardrobe.

Is Fashion Compatible with Feminism?

Politics Style January 23, 2017 0 Comments

Feminism seems to be a topic on everyones lips at the moment, with lots of debates and opinions on what it means to be a feminist or what feminism means for different women. It also seems like fashion brands are increasingly embracing women rights and shining a light on the issue. Maria Grazia Chiuri’s feminist statement at her debut at Dior seemed to reinvigorate the conversation within the fashion industry. It also had me thinking about an issue I wrote about a while ago that I finally decided to share on this blog. Despite designers using the women empowerment rhetoric as an accessory or a trend, it’s important to remember that feminism is not a trend and it is also important to examine the fashion industry and whether it could be considered anti-feminist.

6 Party Dresses That You Can Also Breathe & Eat In

Style December 23, 2016 0 Comments

It’s that time of the year again and as we know, its holiday/ party season so it’s safe to say that for the next few weeks, the dress code is strictly ‘festive’. Tis the season to buy an obscene amount of new dresses and not feel guilty about it because you know they will be put to good use. But, as we all know eating is as much a part of the festivities so here are my top picks of comfortable party dresses, complete with elasticated waists, flattering shapes and frills that are oh-so-giving and will take you from meal time to dance floor.
