African Designer Maki Oh is a womenswear brand that mixes conventional African styles with detailed contemporary styles and my designer of the moment.
Established by Maki Osakwe in 2010, the Maki Oh outline ethos challenges winning thoughts of excellence and examines social standards through a womanist perspective. The brand is focused on a solid feeling of personality and culture. The Maki Oh vision reaches out past physical excellence to a finished, layered, and three-dimensional style. Maki Oh is everything I love in a designer brand; it is intelligently original and I love how it combines Nigerian and conventional Western aesthetics.
Maki Oh has been worn by the former first lady Michelle Obama, Solange Knowles, Lupita N’yongo, Leelee Sobieski, Thandie Newton, Alek Wek, and Azaelia Banks among many others. The brand has displayed its collection during the New York Fashion Week (NYFW). It has since been highlighted in various media houses including Vogue Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, New York Times, New York Magazine, WWD, Nylon, Business of Fashion, W Magazine, Interview Magazine, The Financial Times, Forbes, Elle Magazine, Paper Magazine, Glamor, and numerous others.
In 2014, Maki Oh was welcomed to the White House as one of Mrs. Michelle Obama’s most loved designers, alongside Diane Von Furstenberg, and Jason Wu. It was the first and the only Africa-based designer to be invited to the White House. Maki Osakwe is also one of the two Africans to end up noticeably a finalist in the main LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers.
Maki Oh has accomplished a lot as a brand and a brand you need to know.
